Social Media Mashup

Social Media Desk, Typing, Black Tie Digital Marketing

At Black Tie Digital Marketing we sleep, eat, and breathe social media on a daily basis. Even then, we find it challenging to stay on top of the fast-paced changes to platforms and policies. Luckily, websites like Marketing Land exist that are dedicated to scouring the web and sharing the need-to-know social happenings.

This week there were several notable findings regarding the social media industry that we just had to share with you here in our social media mash up:

Google+ will be split into two new platforms: Streams and Photos

Marketing Land author Travis Wright is calling the split an “unofficial death of Google+.” The platform simply never gained a following strong enough to find success. The devolution of Google+ has been a learning lesson. We’ve learned that as dependable as your go-to social media platforms may seem, it’s important to diversify your social portfolio.

Teens are still on Facebook

Don’t worry—it’s still cool to be on Facebook. As older generations made their way onto social media, younger generations jokes that it was time to move on. Pew Research Center’s statistics say other wise. As Martin Beck discussed in his recent column, the study discovered that 71% of Americans from ages 13 to 17 are indeed active on Facebook.

 Twitter scraps #Discover tab

If you’re an avid tweeter, you’ve likely noticed the “Discover” tab, which has been present since 2011, has gone missing from your mobile application. The tab was a place for users to “discover” what was trending, however, according to Marketing Land, Twitter is currently experimenting in order to facilitate a more streamline natural search feature.

The crazy, frustrating, yet great thing about social media is by Monday morning there will be more platform changes, data to digest, and new best practices. While it might seem like a lot of work to keep up with best practices, it’s completely worth it. Building your brand a strong, genuine presence across a multitude of social platforms should be a staple in your digital marketing strategy.
