Social Media DOs and DON’Ts

In Social Media Marketing in Melbourne, Florida there are a few DOs and DON’Ts you should be aware of. Social Media Today offers a few tips on what to do and what not to do when using social media: Search for popular hashtags, participate in the social media community, don’t offend anyone, and don’t take a political stance.

You should search for popular hashtags to use when posting. It’s important to search for popular hashtags to avoid using too many hashtags. If you use too many you may seem desperate or you may accidentally tweet under a hashtag that is being used for something else. You also want to make sure you use the best hashtag for your content so that when people search for similar topics, they will come across your Tweet. Using the Trending Topics that Twitter provides on its sidebar will also help you engage in a conversation with the majority of the Twitter Universe. Choose the right hashtags when tweeting or when on Instagram so you can be the most effective.

DO participate in the social media community. If you want to be successful on social media, you must participate. While it’s helpful to post content that your customers will benefit from about your business, you should also post content that engages them. It’s best to avoid posts that “sell” your business every single time. Instead, share interesting facts, information, or graphics about your company or the industry in which you work. Other times, post content that is relative to what is going on in the world or something that is humorous. The goal is to interact with your friends and followers.

DON’T offend anyone or post negative comments. Make sure what you are posting doesn’t insult or offend anyone in your social media community. Nothing can ruin business faster than a rude comment that can be shared a thousand times in less than an hour.

DON’T take a political stance. This falls under the previous “DON’T.” By taking a political stance, you may end up offending someone. It’s best to leave your own opinions off the company’s social media accounts. Of course you can’t ignore political goings on, but comment on them in a neutral manner as to make sure you don’t upset anyone.
